A study of the Pro12Ala polymorphic marker of the PPARG2 gene in women of reproductive age in the Russian population
Patients and methods. 211 women (mean age 31.4 ± 0.6 y.) were examined, who were divided into two groups comparable by age: the treatment group – women of reproductive age with MS (n = 109) and the control group – women of reproductive age without MS (n = 102).
Results. In the treatment group, varied degrees of obesity were diagnosed in the majority of the examined women: grade I – in 31%, gr. II – in 26%, gr. III – in 35%. In the control group, gr. I obesity was found in 22%, gr. II – in 9% and gr. III – in 9% of the examined women, whereas 40% had normal BW, 20% were overweight. In the treatment group, enhanced LDL-C (in 78%) and decreased HDL-C (in 57%) levels were most common, hypertriglyceridemia was noted in 44% of patients, arterial hypertension – in 53%, impaired carbohydrate metabolism in 45% of the examined women.
Conclusion. As has been shown, distribution of alleles and genotypes of the Pro12Ala polymorphic marker of the PPARG2 gene did not differ significantly in the group of women of reproductive age with metabolic syndrome or without it. Lower values of intima media thickness of the common carotid artery have been found in the group of women of reproductive age with metabolic syndrome in the presence of Pro/Pro genotype of the PPARG2 polymorphic marker, while carriage of the heterozygous genotype Pro/Ala in the PPARG2 gene, on the contrary, was associated with higher carotid IMT values.
