Assessment of clinical effectiveness of the dietary supplement «Lipoxin» in patients with obesity grade II and III against the background of low-calorie diet therapy
Patients and methods. The study included 40 patients with obesity grade II-III, who were divided into 2 groups: group I (20 patients) against the background of a low sodium diet received the dietary supplement «Lipoxin» 1 capsule 2 times daily after meals, manufactured by the company LLC «Artlife»; group II (20 patients) – control group – received only a low sodium antiatherogenic diet.
Results. As has been found, intake of the dietary supplement (DS) «Lipoxin» for 2 weeks against the background of low-calorie diet therapy results in a significantly greater reduction of body weight. Intake of DS «Lipoxin» does not lead to a significant prevalence in reduction of waist and hip circumference in obese patients grade II-III, but the character of changes of these values in the compared groups permits to expect a high probability of the appearance of differences in case of larger samples and longer duration of observation. We have obtained data that intake of «Lipoxin» results in a faster and more marked (by 2.8 kg, p = 0.009) reduction of fat mass in patients. As has been shown, addition of DS «Lipoxin» to diet therapy does not prevent a loss of muscle and lean mass in patients against the background of low-calorie diet therapy.
Conclusion. A rapid growth of the cases of obesity and a steady increase of obesity-associated complications present a great socioeconomic problem. This necessitates search for new ways of its solution, development of adequate methods for correcting body weight and metabolic disorders. The results of the study have shown an increase of the effectiveness of skeletal muscle fat metabolization in obese patients against the background of using the dietary supplement «Lipoxin».
