Contrast-enhanced ultrasound examinations in gynaecology

The review discusses the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination (CEUS) in gynaecology. The use of contrast agents during echography is aimed at enhancement of the reflected echo from the object of study, which contributes to an increased diagnostic value of ultrasound examination. At present, CEUS with the use of modern, including target contrast agents is regarded as a prospective method of differential diagnosis of benign and malignant processes in the uterus and its appendages, early diagnosis of malignant ovarian neoplasms, determination of the stage of the spread of cancer, adequate assessment of the effectiveness of anti-tumour treatment. The use of CEUS for evaluation of tubal patency remains also topical.

Key words: contrast-enhanced ultrasound, uterine myoma, ovarian tumours, uterine cancer, ultrasound contrast agents, ultrasound in gynaecology.
