Pelvic dysfunction: some morphopathogenetic aspects

The objective of research work was to study the morphology of m. levator anii in patients with genital prolapse, and also the content of nervous tissue in the mucous membranes of the vagina. Histological and immunihistochemical examinations of biopsy samples of the puborectal muscle in patients with prolapse of the pelvic organs were performed. The percentage of positive findings of the cross-striated muscle biopsy amounted to 70.6%, in the control group – 100%. As was noted, in patients with genital prolapse the proportion of muscle fibers containing slow and fast myosin isomorphs changes (MYH1 and MYH2, respectively), and also the collagen types 1 and 3 ratio. In studying the content of nervous tissue markers in the mucous membranes of the vagina their decrease in the anterior wall of the vagina was revealed in patients with pelvic prolapse, which might be indicative of the presence of a neurogenic component in the pathogenesis of this disease.
