Pyelonephritis during pregnancy

The lecture features pyelonephritis – the most common extragenital pathology during pregnancy. A detailed account of the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentations, diagnosing and treatment of pyelonephritis in pregnant women is given. The authors discuss  specificities  of  current  disease-causing  pathogens,  pathophysiological  mechanisms  of  development  of  complicated forms considering altered immunity, functional state of the urogenital tract and renal hemodynamics, characteristic complications for mother and fetus are described. Special attention is paid to asymptomatic bacteriuria as the most important risk factor for development of pyelonephritis. Clinical and modern laboratory and instrumental methods of early diagnosis are described that have been approved for using during pregnancy. Principles of complex therapy and prophylaxis of pyelonephritis, urological and obstetric complications are presented in detail.
