Verification of premature rupture of membranes using the express test «Actim PROM»

The article presents evidence of the clinical efficacy of the express test for diagnosing premature rupture of membranes – «Actim PROM» («Medix Biochemica», Finland). The examination involved 45 pregnant women aged from 17 to 38 years at terms of gestation from 18 to 38 weeks. The study evaluated: time from the onset of seeping of amniotic fluid to admission to  hospital,  presence  of  bloody  discharge,  time  of  the  last  sexual  intercourse.  As  the  study  has  demonstrated,  the  test «Actim PROM» is a prompt, convenient and noninvasive way of diagnosing premature rupture of membranes, the results of which are not influenced by the presence of sperm, blood or leucorrhoea. Contrary to many diagnostic techniques that are used in medicine and have high sensitivity but low specificity, the test is highly specific and yields a high (100%) positive predictive result. For increasing the test sensitivity the time interval from the moment of discharge of fluid till performing the test is important. In this connection, the test should be performed immediately after a rupture of membranes has been suspected.
